Year 3 World War II Evacuee Day - What an adventure!
As part of our WW2 topic year 3 took part in an evacuation. This was an opportunity to experience travelling on a train away from home (to Tattenham Corner!) and to be billeted to a new home. The children talked about the challenges and excitement that an adventure like this might bring. Currently they are using this experience to write diaries about being evacuated as child - here are some extracts:
Dear Diary,
…Today was terrifying, I didn’t want to go. When we arrived in the country I felt like my memories were disappearing… Dolly
…when I arrived at the house I was greeted with a warm glass of milk… I wonder what I’m going to do to tomorrow?…. Asha
…last night’s sleep was good especially because there were no bombs and no loud noises which was the best… Jamie
…I went to bed feeling very tired. I wonder if my mum and dad are ok. I miss them very much…. Archie
We are so grateful to the many volunteers who were helped us and to Mrs Adams for being our ‘Official photographer’
