Year 4
Welcome to Year 4. By now you will be familiar with the routines of KS2 and learning will continue to be mainly through topics covered.
The Year 4 Team is made up of 4T – with class teacher, Mrs Thomson and 4H - with Mr Hankin. They are supported by Mrs Clawson, Mrs Townson and Mrs Evans
In Year 4 we aim to make learning as exciting and memorable as possible. We begin the year with a trip to Box Hill, followed by one to Hampton Court Palace and we will have a Year 4 sleepover in the Summer term, aiming to promote independence and team work.
Our curriculum is topic based, covering a wide range of topics that challenge and engage all children. Where possible, the key skills of Literacy and Numeracy are linked through our topic work. Topics during the year include learning about spy stories and The Tudors, which links with the visit to Hampton Court Palace.
Over the past few years, we have developed our creativity weeks to be a central part of our curriculum, and the children really enjoy mask-making, theme park design, making torches and much, much more.
A highlight of our year is an enterprise project linked to Wimbledon. This involves the children planning, managing and leading a tennis event in school, including the sale of refreshments to raise money for our year group charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital. As yet, the weather hasn’t stopped play and the children tell us that the event is ‘Ace’!
Other activities that Year 4 children will take part in include:
- Performing in the Year 3 and 4 Pantomime
- Learning about the Maya
- Mask making
- Viking workshop
- Tudor banquet and play
